How to make an LCD screen casing?

03.11.2024

When designing the casing for an LCD screen, three aspects need to be considered: important dimensional parameters of the LCD screen, casing dimensions, and casing assembly processes. Today, we will introduce the production of the casing for an LCD screen.

Important Dimensional Parameters of the Screen:

Outer Dimensions (TFT OD): The external dimensions of the LCD screen.

Visible Area (Thin-Film Transistor Open): The visible area of the LCD screen.

Active Area (TFT AA): The area where the pixels are located in the LCD screen.

Setting the Dimensions of the LCD Screen Casing:

If the window of the LCD screen casing is larger than the visible area (TFT OPEN), the metal frame of the display screen will be exposed, which is aesthetically undesirable. On the other hand, if the window is smaller than the active area (TFT AA), it will cover the image displayed on the screen. Therefore, the LCD screen casing should be designed based on the most important dimensional parameters, namely OD, OPEN, and AA.

The opening in the casing for the display screen should be larger than the external dimensions (OD) specified in the drawings, as the screen should not be tightly placed against the casing to avoid damaging the FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) or the display screen. An offset of approximately 2mm may be appropriate. When designing the casing for a LCD touch module, attention should be paid to the dimensions of the upper glass (length, width, and corner radius), the touch panel, the glass, and the thickness of the adhesive tape. For display modules with installation frames, the diameter and spacing of the mounting holes are important parameters. All of these dimensions should be taken into consideration when designing the LCD screen casing.

LCD Screen Casing Assembly Process:

The correct assembly process of the LCD screen module in the casing is crucial. Common damages that occur during incorrect assembly include FFC loss, separation of the throttle position from the transmission oil, damage to the thin-film transistor glass, and bending of the LCD display frame.

During the first stage of installing the display module in the casing, it is important to take care in protecting the edges of the FFC to prevent damage. We recommend using brackets mounted on the back of the display screen. Additional support will make the entire structure more rigid and minimize the impact of external factors such as vibrations and temperature changes. When installing the LCD screen into the casing, caution should be exercised to avoid applying excessive pressure on the module. Excessive pressure will not improve adhesion.
