Clear Advantages of LCD Displays

12.01.2023

Compared to CRT displays, LCDs overcome the shortcomings of CRTs such as large size, power consumption, and flicker, but also bring problems such as high cost, poor viewing angle, and unsatisfactory color display. But technically, the advantages of liquid crystal displays are still obvious, mainly in the following six areas:

1. Smaller size and lighter weight

Because traditional CRT displays use CRT technology for imaging, they need a built-in vacuum CRT, and then equipped with an electron gun at the end to make the length generally exceed 30 cm. Of course, the volume of the entire display is larger. For example, the liquid crystal display uses liquid crystal materials and then uses the corresponding imaging technology to achieve the display purpose. There is no need to install a picture tube inside the display. The volume is of course small. Like the EMC 15-inch liquid crystal display BM-568, its volume is only 19-inch CRT display volume. One-half to one-third of the product has greater elasticity when placed, and its small size certainly reduces its weight greatly.

2. Relative display area is larger

Due to the limitation of the display technology, the traditional CRT display has a smaller size than the display area of the fluorescent screen. Generally, a 15-inch CRT display has a 15-inch size, but its real visible range It may only be about 14.1 inches, while a 17-inch display may only have a display area of 15 to 16 inches below it. However, due to different surface image principles, the size of the LCD display is the actual display area. For example, Samsung ’s 15-inch LCD display has a complete display area of 15 inches, which is equivalent to the display of a 17-inch CRT monitor. The area, if the price of the two is almost the same, is of course much more cost-effective to buy an LCD monitor.

3. Zero radiation, no flicker

CRT displays use cathode-ray picture tubes for imaging. The electron beam contained in them generates a lot of static electricity and radiation during movement. The faster the electron beam runs, the greater its radiation, and the human body's long-term use will cause damage to the eyes and skin. Causes myopia, skin irritation and other problems. Because liquid crystal displays use liquid crystal materials, no electron beam is required during operation, so there are no problems with static electricity and radiation that affect vision. In addition, the frame of a CRT display is formed by horizontal scanning. Only when the scanning frequency reaches a certain value, there is no flicker. The LCD screen does not require any scanning process, and the frames are formed almost simultaneously. The refresh frequency is very low and there is no slight flicker.

4. Low power consumption and strong anti-interference ability

In addition to the circuit and display power consumption of CRT displays, there is also power consumption of display screens, while LCD displays mainly consume power of backlights and circuits, and the power consumption of their display screens can be ignored, like EMC's 15-inch display BM- 568, its power consumption is only 35 watts, which is nearly 50% less than CRT products with the same display area. In addition, the liquid crystal display does not use a color picture tube and an electron gun to image as a CRT display. It does not need to consider the high radiation effect caused by increasing the electron beam emitted by the electron gun, but only obtains the brightness through the backlight emitted by the fluorescent tube, so it has a stronger Anti-interference ability, even in the environment where the light is concentrated, it will receive a good display effect.

5. Higher picture quality

The traditional CRT display adopts the analog display method, and the signal output of the display card uses the analog output method. During the transmission process, it may cause the loss of the image and cause the degradation of the picture quality. The signal transmission of the liquid crystal display uses the digital method. Direct input of unclear digital signals by the graphics card will not cause signal loss, but currently most LCD monitors still use VGA interfaces for analog displays, and only a few manufacturers such as EMC, Samsung, ACER and others have set up digital video signal interfaces.

6. Use functions more intelligently

Due to the different materials and technologies used in liquid crystal displays, some of its parameters are generally fixed. This requires that the performance adjustment of the display be more intelligent. In this regard, each manufacturer has its own mature technology. In general, There are two main types. One is similar to the EMC Auto-set automatic adjustment and optimal setting function. As long as one of the parameters is adjusted, the other parameters are automatically adjusted to the corresponding values, and they are the best values to ensure the most Good effect. The other type is the one-button reset function, that is, one button is prefabricated, and all parameters can be changed back to the factory default settings with a single touch.
